KURLE: Download for Free KURLE - KURZWEIL 1000 and 1200 SERIES EDITOR/LIBRARIAN 3-96 KURLE - a KURZWEIL Librarian Editor for IBM compatible PCs provides basic librarian, powerful editing features and an extensive sound patch library for the Kurzweil 1000 and 1200 series keyboards and expander modules (including the 'pro' series). If you own a Kurzweil, you have a powerful and flexible musical instrument! KURLE provides the rest - easy creation and editing, fast documentation, permanent back-up and over 400 famous Kurzweil sound patches! The library includes patches from the AX, GX, SX, HX, and PX Expanders and the K1000 and K1200 keyboards including the ROM sounds lost when the Keyboards or Expanders are upgraded to include the A or B block. The librarian provides for saving and restoring of ALL RAM or ROM object types, and for changing of object numbers and names. An on screen '23 button' Kurzweil front panel emulator, MIDI trace utilities, and a librarian for system exclusive MIDI data are also included. You can even create and download your own K1000 demo song from any MIDI type 0 file. The editor portion of KURLE adds the ability to EDIT, DISPLAY, or PRINT the contents of objects resident in the computer memory or objects in the Expander. IBM or Mac ObjectMover and ObjectMover+ files may be imported or exported. The library includes Kurzweil's ROM and RAM program patches for all versions of the AX, GX, SX, HX and PX Expanders and the K1000 and K1200 Keyboards. The LIBRARIAN/EDITOR supports ALL Kurzweil 1000 and 1200 Series Keyboards and Expanders. OBJECT EDITS: All user available objects in the 1000 and 1200 Series may be easily edited with KURLE. This includes Program Objects, Master Table, MIDI Program Lists, Velocity Maps, Intonation Tables, Bin Maps, Performance Setups and Pressure Maps. You may quickly move to any desired parameter and then scroll through the available values for that parameter or directly enter a new value. A 'note-play' feature complete with sustain, after touch, and MIDI channel controls allows you to hear your changes from the computer keyboard. All parameters and modular effects within a Program Object may be edited including modular effects created by compiled effects. Program layers are edited one layer at a time. ALL parameters of the layer are displayed on the screen, along with parameters of any sub-object being edited (LFO1, AMP ENV, etc.). Sub-objects are displayed in their own window. Think of how easy it will be for you to set up or change 'Program Lists', 'Velocity Maps', 'Intonation Tables' or 'Program Objects' when you can see the entire object at once! The lay-out of this editor will help you understand the relationships of all of the various objects, global effects, layers, and modular effects within layers. OBJECT DISPLAYS and LISTS: Complete listings can be made of all parameters in any type of object! The screen displays utilize windows, showing sub-objects (gLFO1, AMP ENV, etc.) in an appropriately placed window on top of the primary object. The screen displays may be copied to a printer with the 'Print Screen' key or better yet, more useful 'archived listings' may be made to your printer or to any file of your choice. An option allows you to include object names when producing an archived listing of Program Lists. The displays and printer output alone will make KURLE a most valuable tool! KURLE makes documentation for your Kurzweil setups and programs a 'piece of cake'! REQUIREMENTS/INFORMATION: Kurle is a text based MS-DOS program that makes extensive use of hot keys for quick navigation through the menu options. The program requires MS-DOS 2.0 or higher and 512Kb memory. MDA, CGA, and monochrome or color EGA, or VGA are supported (any display in Windows 95/98). A mouse is not required. Note that this program runs very well in a Windows 95/98 MS-DOS Window - but does not use Windows Midi Drivers. Kurle supports Rev 1.0 through 5.32 of the Kurzweil 1000 series (Keyboards, expanders). To use Kurle you will need a MIDI interface that is compatible with Kurle. Kurle is written to work with only a few very specific MIDI interfaces. Kurle is a DOS porgram (not windows). It will run in a windows 95 or 98 DOS window as long as the supported MIDI interface is not dedicated to or being used by a windows program. Before you pay for Kurle you should test the MIDI interface you plan to use. Use the free download Kurle program to do this test. Supported Interfaces are: ISA Roland MPU 401 or compatible cards (few for sale any more) ** MusicQuest (Now OpCode) MQX32 is a supported ISA Plug in card. ** Key Electronics MS101 serial interface card available from www.MIDIator.com This is a RS232 Serial port interface. **Soundblaster 2.0, Pro or ASP16 or compatible ISA sound cards. These require a Game Port MIDI Cable adapter. (Many so called Soundblaster compatible cards are not truly compatible for MIDI - the Media Vision PAS 16 and other cards do not have a large enough MIDI input buffer and do not work well except with VERY fast computers.) IMPORANT: Many users (including me) OFTEN can not get Kurle to work in a DOS window in windows 98 - or windows 95. I am not sure why this is! It may have something to do with how Windows allows (or does not allow) DOS programs to use and or share the interrupts and I/O addresses. Before you give up, try Kurle after a straight boot to a DOS prompt! This will almost always solve the problem assuming you have Kurle configured correctly (MIDI Interface, I/O addresses IRQs and all that stuff.) So, How do you boot to a DOS prompt. One way is to boot to windows, then Click 'Start' and select 'Shut Down' then select 'Restart in MS DOS Mode' There are other ways for pc nerds. HINT: You can use Device Manager to lean the IRQ, I/O address etc of your ISA MIDI Card or ISA Soundblaster Card. You will need these when you configure Kurle. Click My Computer, Control Panel, System then select the Device Manager Tab. Select your Sound Video Game Controller device, select properties then resources. If you use the Midiator 101 serial MIDI interface just know which Serial Port you plug it into. (1 or 2) and follow the instructions for configuring for that interface. The editor/librarian (KURLE) and sound patch library is available as a download as shareware for only $20.00. A comprehensive MSWord manual is included.
